WHEREAS, Mary Collier Woolridge has been a prominent civil rights figure in the Louisville community dating back to the 1950's and 1960's;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Woolridge engaged with her peers to organize and call broader attention to unjust local, state, and federal laws as an equal rights activist during those years, demonstrating to desegregate the Brown Theater in 1959, marching in Washington, D.C., and marching in Forsyth County, Georgia;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Woolridge continued her work as a charter member of the Legislative Council of Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, serving on the Council until 2018; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Woolridge used her position on the Metro Council to further fair housing goals, equal access to good jobs for her community, and for better educational opportunities for her district, as well as examining unjust zoning practices that would place incinerators and other pollution causing businesses in West Louisville;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: Mary Collier Woolridge's service to her community and the citizens of Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of three honorary street signs on Wingfield Lane and the intersecting corners of Beech Street, South 23rd Street, and Dixie Highway and so designated as "Mary Collier Woolridge Lane."
SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of these honorary street signs upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover their expense.
