TITLE
A RESOLUTION HONORING REVEREND MONROE JOHNSON BY DEDICATING A PORTION OF 17TH STREET AT KENTUCKY STREET, BRECKINRIDGE STREET, AND GARLAND AVENUE AS "MONROE JOHNSON WAY" IN HIS HONOR.

WHEREAS, Reverend (Rev.) Monroe Johnson founded the Pure in Heart Missionary Baptist Church;
WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson provided bible-based preaching and teaching for nearly four decades, and was a pillar of the community;
WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson retired from General Electric after a distinguished career of nearly 20 years of service;
WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson was one of the first local pastors to allow women to preach at his church;
WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson offered his immense wisdom and knowledge to all; and
WHEREAS, the Council is grateful for Rev. Johnson's service and dedication to our community and thanks him for his service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Rev. Monroe Johnson's dedicated service and commitment to Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of honorary street signs on 17th Street at the corners of Kentucky Street, Breckinridge Street, and Garland Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky and so designated as "Monroe Johnson Way."
SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary signs upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense.
SECTION III: This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
