WHEREAS, The Harshaw Family Foundation has generously donated $500,000.00 to the Friends of Animal Services for the construction of Louisville Metro Government's new animal care facility located at 3516 Newburg Road; and
WHEREAS, Frank Harshaw has generously supported the communities in which he and his associates live and work and the Harshaw Family Foundation has supported children's issues, education, arts and human services; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the generosity of Frank and Paula Harshaw and the Harshaw family, the Director of Facilities Management petitions and recommends that the Metro Council officially name one of the buildings in the new animal care facility, located at 3516 Newburg Road, as the "Harshaw Family Foundation Animal Shelter;" and
WHEREAS, the new animal care facility is expected to open in August 2019 and, as such, there is not sufficient time to follow the notice and publication requirements contained in Louisville Metro Code of Ordinances ("LMCO") ? 39.033; and
WHEREAS, LMCO ? 39.033 authorizes the Legislative Council of the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government with final approval of the naming of a Metro Government facility; and
WHEREAS, Louisville Metro Government desires that one of the buildings of the new animal care facility be named the "Harshaw Family Foundation Animal Shelter;"
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT ("COUNCIL") AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: Notwithstanding Louisville Metro Code of Ordinances ? 39.033, the Council hereby approves the naming of one of the buildings at the new animal care facility, located at 3516 Newburg Road, as the "Harshaw Family Foundation Anim...
