AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE LOUISVILLE METRO CODE OF ORDINANCES SECTION 39.033 REGARDING THE NAMING OF METRO GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.

WHEREAS, Louisville Metro Government seeks to update its policy on the naming of Louisville Metro Government property to make the process less burdensome; and
WHEREAS, Louisville Metro Government establishes a review by the Director of Facilities Management with approval by Louisville Metro Council after a public hearing at Metro Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Louisville Metro Code of Ordinances (“LMCO”) Section 39.033 is amended as follows:
§ 39.033 NAMING OF COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.
Applications to name a Metro Government-owned property, including a building, campus, facility, park, or park like facility, may only be named with the recommendation of Louisville Metro Director of Facilities Management and approval by Louisville Metro Council. Applications to name a Metro Government-owned property must be submitted for review to the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Director of Facilities Management, or his or her designee. The office of the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Director of Facilities Management, or his or her designee, will provide the necessary applications for the naming process. The Louisville/Jefferson County Director of Facilities Management, or his or her designee, shall receive public comment for 90 days regarding the application and shall conduct a public hearing on the proposal within 90 days after the public comment period but upon at least 30 days public notice published at least twice on successive days in the newspaper of largest circulation in Louisville/Jefferson County. After the public hearing, If the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Director of Facilities Management, or his or her designee, shall make a recommendation recommends approval of an application to name a Metro Government-owned property, his or her recommendation is to advance to the Louisville Metro Council for consideration and a committee meetingGovernment. Final approval of the application must be by requires a majority vote of by the Louisville Metro Council or the application is rejected and may not be resubmitted for a period of two years.
SECTION II: This Ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
