A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ACCEPT FUNDING FROM the Laura and John Arnold Foundation IN THE AMOUNT OF $339,750 FOR THE purposeS of supporting a two-year pilot project to reduce felony case processing times IN JEFFERSON DISTRICT COURT, TO BE ADMINISTERED BY Louisville Metro Government TO THE COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY'S OFFICE AND DECLARING THE PASSAGE OF THIS RESOLUTION AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the application for the funding has been reviewed and approved by the Laura and John Arnold Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Metro Government wishes to take advantage of this funding opportunity through the Louisville Metro Criminal Justice Commission.
WHEREAS, the Laura and John Arnold Foundation has required immediate execution of the contract by which the grant will be accepted;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:
 
SECTION I:      The Mayor is hereby authorized to accept funding from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation in the amount of $339,750 for the sole purpose of supporting a two-year pilot project to reduce felony case processing times by assigning two prosecutors and a paralegal from the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to handle felony charges dockets in two District Courts in Jefferson County, Kentucky, to be administered by the Louisville Metro Criminal Justice Commission.
SECTION II:       As the grantor has required the contract to accept this grant be executed immediately, and pursuant to Section 7.12 of the Rules of the Council, the passage of this Resolution is deemed to be an emergency.
SECTION III:  This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
