A RESOLUTION HONORING THE WORK OF JERRY BRINSON BY DEDICATING THE NORTHERN CORNER OF 25TH STREET AND MONTGOMERY STREET TO BE NAMED “JERRY BRINSON WAY” IN HIS HONOR.

                     WHEREAS, Jerry Brinson, a Master electrician, and his wife Delois and son, have made the Portland community their home since 1986; and

                     WHEREAS, since that time Jerry has demonstrated his love and affection for the Portland community through innumerable acts of service and leadership, both large and small; and

WHEREAS, in December 2019, Jerry received the Mayor’s Proclamation Award for his lifetime of devotion and service to Portland; and

                     WHEREAS, in December 2013, Jerry received the Kentucky Colonel Award, in part for his advocacy to implement a local building moratorium and thereby stabilize the local rental market and its affordability for those in the community; and

                     WHEREAS, in 1998, Jerry received the Good Neighbor Award for the service he demonstrated in the Portland community; and                     

WHEREAS, Jerry has been a dedicated community leader for over 30 years, organizing grocery shopping efforts for seniors, advocating for greater fire protection, hosting seasonal festivities, growing the little league baseball league to over 400 children, cooking holiday meals, and clearing Portland streets of snow during the 1994 winter storm.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

 

SECTION I: Jerry Brinson is hereby recognized for his exemplary community service with the placement of an honorary street sign on the northern corner of 25th Street and Montgomery Street to be designated as “Jerry Brinson Way.

SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary street sign upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense. 

SECTION III:                     This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval or otherwise becoming law.
