A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE REINSTATEMENT OF A SECURITY GUARD AT THE REAR ENTRANCE TO CITY HALL.

WHEREAS, in May of 2015, the Louisville Metro Facilities and Fleet Management made the decision to no longer provide a full-time security guard at the guard station at the rear entrance to City Hall on Congress Alley; and
WHEREAS, the safety and security of City Hall employees is the most important concern of the Council; and
WHEREAS, comparable or similar sized cities that maintain a security guard at all entrances to their respective city halls include Cincinnati, Nashville, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Austin, Columbus, Detroit, Washington, D.C., El Paso, Memphis, and San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, there have been incidents of violence in city halls in the cities of Kirkwood, Missouri; New Hope, Minnesota; Washington, D.C.; and Kansas City, Missouri.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: The Council hereby requests that the Louisville Metro Facilities and Fleet Management reinstate a full-time security guard at the rear entrance to City Hall.
SECTION II: This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
