WHEREAS, Molly Ann Leonard , who deceased this life in December, 2008, was a valued and respected community activist and leader in the Portland Community of Metro Louisville for many years, serving the community diligently, faithfully, and meritoriously; and,
WHEREAS, some of the accomplishments of Mrs. Leonard included, but are not limited to the following: Office Manager for the Jefferson County Clerk; Co-founder of the 6th District Police Auxiliary, Portland Development Organization, Portland Summer Festival and Homecoming and Portland Now; Member of Friends of Portland Library, Portland Business Association, and Neighborhood Liaison for the Army Corps of Engineers; Board Member of the Neighborhood House, Portland Family Health Center, Committee of the Marine Hospital, and Citizens Police Advisory Board; Inductee to the Portland Hall of Fame and Legislative District Chairperson for the Jefferson County Republican Party; Recipient of the John Sherman Cooper Award, Distinguished Woman of the Year from the Center for Women and Families 2000, and past Honorary Mayor of Portland in 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981; and
WHEREAS, the Council deems it a proper memorial to honor this outstanding community leader by changing the name of the Portland Community Center (Community Center) to the Molly Leonard Portland Community Center, and instructing the Department of Public Works to replace the old signage which reads Portland Community Center, with new signage at the site of the Community Center to reflect the name "Molly Leonard Portland Community Center."
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:
