AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE LOUISVILLE METRO CODE OF ORDINANCES (“LMCO”) §32.062 RELATING TO THE JUNETEENTH JUBILEE COMMISSION.

WHEREAS, the Juneteenth Jubilee Commission was established to recognize the Juneteenth Celebration and facilitate creating a series of educational, cultural and community wide events; and
WHEREAS, the original members were appointed in April, causing their terms to expire shortly before the Juneteenth Celebration and the Commission’s planned events and celebrations; and
WHEREAS, it is important for the Commission to have continuity in membership through the Juneteenth Celebration to help ensure successful planning and facilitation of educational, cultural and community wide events.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: Section 32.062 of the LMCO is amended as follows:
§ 32.062 TERMS OF SERVICE; VACANCIES.
   (A)   Terms of ex officio non-voting members. Terms of ex officio non-voting members listed in § 32.061(B) shall be coterminous with the term of office or position of the member who holds the seat on the Commission or who designates the member to hold the seat on the Commission.
   (B)   Terms of appointed voting members. Initial terms of service for members appointed pursuant to § 32.061(C) shall be staggered as follows:
      (1)   One-third (1/3) of the members shall be appointed to serve a term of one year;
      (2)   One-third (1/3) of the members shall be appointed to serve a term of two years;
      (3)   One-third (1/3) of the members shall be appointed to serve a term of three years.
      (4)   If the number of members appointed to the initial terms of the Commission is not evenly divisible by three, appointments shall be allocated as evenly as possible among one, two, and three-year terms.
