A RESOLUTION HONORING CHIEF RUSSELL S. MCDANIEL BY DEDICATING THE CORNER OF WEST MANSLICK ROAD AND MITCHELL HILL ROAD TO BE NAMED "RUSSELL S. MCDANIEL WAY" IN HIS HONOR (AMENDMENT BY SUBSTITUTION).

WHEREAS, Chief Russell S. McDaniel was a longstanding member of the Fairdale Community; and
WHEREAS, Chief McDaniel is survived by his brother, Millard McDaniel, of Mt. Washington, KY; and his three nephews and two nieces; and
WHEREAS, Chief McDaniel served as Chief of the Jefferson County Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Chief McDaniel was a proud member of First Baptist Church of Fairdale, where he served as a Deacon for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Chief McDaniel served as a Mason at the Fairdale Masonic Lodge #942; and
WHEREAS, Chief McDaniel served on the Louisville International Airport Air Board for 4 years; and
WHEREAS, Chief McDaniel is a retired World War ll Army Veteran; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Chief McDaniel's outstanding achievements in his professional career and contributions to the community, the community wishes to honor Mr. Russell S. McDaniel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Chief McDaniel's service and dedication to Louisville Metro Government is hereby recognized with the placement of an honorary street sign on the corner of West Manslick Road and Mitchell Hill Road, to be designated as "Russell S. McDaniel Way", which road now serves as an alleyway fronting the new Shack in the Back BBQ restaurant and the Fairdale Green Space.
SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary street sign upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense.
