TITLE
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE LOUISVILLE METRO CEMETERY BOARD.

WHEREAS, the Council desires to restore, maintain, and protect the non-profit and indigent cemeteries in Louisville Metro which do not receive perpetual care funds; and
WHEREAS, KRS 67.680 grants Kentucky counties the authority to create a county cemetery board by ordinance, which may apply to the Kentucky Department for Local Government for grants to restore and maintain nonprofit cemeteries that do not receive perpetual care funds pursuant to KRS 367.952;
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: ESTABLISHMENT.
(A) There is hereby created the Louisville Metro Cemetery Board, hereinafter referred to as the "Board".
(B) The Board is established for the purpose of facilitating the restoration and maintenance of nonprofit and indigent cemeteries that do not receive perpetual care funds pursuant to KRS 367.952.
(C) In carrying out its purpose, the Board shall perform a number of functions, including working with other local groups to identify and promote the maintenance and preservation of local cemeteries, applying for, accepting, and dispersing grant funds and donations through the Louisville Metro Parks Department to carry out its purpose, and assisting in developing appropriate projects.
SECTION II: MEMBERSHIP.
(A) The Board shall consist of five (5) volunteer members with no more than three (3) members representing the same political party. Members shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Louisville Metro Council, shall have lived in Jefferson County for at least one (1) year prior to appointment, and shall have demonstrated an interest in cemetery preservation, genealogy, local history or a related area.
