A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF V.V. COOKE, SR.

WHEREAS, V.V. Cooke, Sr. was a native of Butler County who became a successful businessman with car dealerships, and

WHEREAS, V.V. Cooke, Sr. established V.V. Cooke Chevrolet in 1930, one of the most prosperous car dealerships in Louisville, Kentucky, and

WHEREAS, V.V. Cooke, Sr. employed over 100 highly trained and respected sales people, mechanics and personnel staff by the 1960’s, and

WHEREAS, V.V. Cooke, Sr. had a unique perception and business know-how that allowed V.V. Cooke, Chevrolet to be known not just in Louisville, Kentucky, but all of Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee, and

WHEREAS, V.V. Cooke, Sr. had great influence with Chevrolet due to his sales records that his establishment received the first 1953 Corvette to be delivered in Kentucky, and

WHEREAS, V.V. Cooke, Sr. slowly eased into his retirement, after years of dedicated service to his business, as he passed on the reins of the company to his son V.V. Cooke, Jr., and

WHEREAS, V.V. Cooke, Sr. left behind a legacy and memories that his family and the Louisville community will never forget, and

WHEREAS, Metro Councilman David A. James wishes to honor the late V.V. Cooke, Sr. by instructing the Department of Metro Public Works and Assets to install honorary signage designating the following location as V.V. Cooke, Sr. Way: an alleyway between 2nd Street and Howard Pull Alley.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/ JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: V.V. Cooke, Sr.’s life and service to Louisville Metro be honored with an honorary street sign designating the alley that runs from 2nd Street to Howard Pull Alley in Louisville, Kentucky as “V.V. Cooke, Sr. Way.”  The Department of Metro Public Works and Assets is hereby directed to effect the same as soon as practicable following the passage of the resolution.

SECTION II: This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
