WHEREAS, the Louisville Zoo serves a broad regional community and nearly 900,000 annual visitors by providing compelling animal, educational and recreational experiences designed to fulfill the Zoo's mission to better the bond between people and our planet. As the highest attended nonprofit attraction in the region, the Louisville Zoo pledges to remain central to the community's quality of place; and
WHEREAS, the Louisville Zoo Is accredited by the prestigious Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the American Alliance of Museums for its collections, which include the accreditation of the Zoo as a botanical garden; and
WHEREAS, the Louisville Zoo Is recognized globally as a leader in innovative exhibit design and animal welfare management and home to three award-winning exhibits; and
WHEREAS, the Louisville Zoo serves as a steward of scientific thinking with award-winning education programs to further develop the skills and knowledge necessary for student success in work and life and inspire a desire for lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, the Louisville Zoo continues to increase its support of local, national and global conservation action and lead the way in critical conservation initiatives like the black-footed ferret recovery program - enhancing the Zoo's model program dedicated to reestablishing North America's most endangered mammal; and
WHEREAS, the Louisville Zoo creates new and memorable guest experiences and fosters togetherness while strengthening its role as a key community resource in cultivating a culture of mindfulness and compassion toward wildlife, the environment and each other; and
