TITLE
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 32 97 OF THE LOUISVILLE METRO CODE OF ORDINANCES (LMCO) BY ADDING A NEW SECTION 97.095 REGARDING HISTORIC LANMARKS AND PRESERATION DISTRICTS AS IT RELATES TO REQUIRING THE SALVAGE AND PRESERVATION OF BRICK PAVERS REMOVED FROM STREETS AND ALLEYS (Amendment by Substitution)(AS AMENDED)

WHEREAS, brick paved streets and alleys add character to neighborhoods which promotes civic value and adds value to surrounding properties; and
WHEREAS, Louisville contains numerous brick paved streets and alleys which reflect and retain the historic character of its neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, well managed brick paved streets and alleys contribute the reduction of speeding traffic and require minimum maintenance and repair.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: A new section to LMCO ?32 of the LMCO is hereby added as follows There is hereby enacted a new section of Chapter 97 of the LMCO as follows:
?97.095 BRICK PAVER SALVAGE
Brick masonry pavers that are removed by any person or by Louisville Metro Government or private contractors shall be salvaged and stored by Louisville Metro Public Works for future use. Salvaged or harvested brick masonry pavers can then be used for the purposes of preservation and maintenance of existing brick streets and alleys. Pavers that are installed pursuant to this section shall be installed using the same construction processes and techniques as used in the existing historic surface where possible.
SECTION II: This Ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
