WHEREAS, J. Douglas Nunn, a native of Wichita, Kansas, became a resident of Louisville in 1941;
WHEREAS, Mr. Nunn was a city hall reporter for the Courier Journal from 1941 to 1948, except for his time in the Navy;
WHEREAS, Mr. Nunn, in 1948, became a special writer-editor for community development affairs and local government, and used his articles to encourage action from city leaders regarding various topics, including Louisville's growing problems with urban blight;
WHEREAS, Mr. Nunn, who observed with dismay the increasing loss of historically important architecture in Louisville, coordinated the founding of the Old Louisville Association in 1961;
WHEREAS, Mr. Nunn launched several parallel efforts to encourage preservation, including a model project to demonstrate how modern life could be comfortably adapted to historic homes, and with financial support from local families he helped form Restoration Inc. in 1962 to purchase nine homes on Belgravia Court for this demonstration; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nunn's work for advancing city interests and preserving Louisville's heritage also included the founding of Shakespeare in the Park, the purchase and restoration of the Belle of Louisville, and the preservation of the Brown Theatre.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/ JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: Mr. J. Douglas Nunn's service to Louisville Metro be honored with an honorary street sign for the alley that passes between 4th Street and St. James Court on Belgravia Court in Louisville, Kentucky, designated as "J. Douglas Nunn Alley." The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with fabrication and installation of the honorary street sign upon the passage of the resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense.
