A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF ROBERT LEE BURKS

WHEREAS, Mr. Burks was the tenth child of thirteen siblings;
WHEREAS, Mr. Burks was the father of five children - Sharon, George, Connie, Morris and Wanda
WHEREAS, Mr. Burks was the co-founder of the Newburg Boys and Girls Club in Newburg and a major organizer of softball leagues for the Newburg Community;
WHEREAS, Mr. Burks found joy in hunting, softball, bowling and karaoke;
WHEREAS, Mr. Burks was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown, Kentucky;
WHEREAS, Mr. Burks was recognized on many occasions for being an example of a servant for his congregation and community who relied on his guidance and support;
WHEREAS, Mr. Burks departed this life on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the age of eighty-seven years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/ JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Robert Lee Burks' life and service to Louisville Metro be honored with an honorary street sign at Exeter Street and Indian Trail in Louisville, Kentucky designated as "Robert Lee Burks Street." The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with fabrication and installation of the honorary street sign upon the passage of the resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense.
SECTION II: This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
