A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY

OF MICHAEL T. WHITE

WHEREAS, Michael Troy White, the son of the Walter and Betty Jo White, was born in St. Louis, Missouri;

WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White transitioned peacefully to Heaven on August 9, 2016 surrounded by his family;

WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White was a businessman, community advocate, and philanthropist who received numerous honors and awards for his involvement and accomplishments in the community; 

WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White studied business at Lindsey Wilson College and Yarmuth University;

WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White was the CEO of America’s Finest Filter, Co-Founder of Our Father’s House, Co-Founder of The Token Club, Co-Founder of Reno and White, Co-Founder of Divine Steps, and Founder of WF Development and the Kentucky Recovery Resource Center; 

WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White is a graduate of the 2015 Leadership Louisville Class, former board member of 100 Black Men (2000), Kentucky Chamber of Commerce (2016), and Greater Louisville Inc. (2016). Additionally, Michael was a member of Bates Memorial Baptist Church; 

WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White received many awards and accolades over the years, including:  US Regional Minority Business of the Year (2004), 100 Blackmen-Awarded Man of the Year (2006), State Minority Business of the Year (2006), Incredible Inc. Award Winner (2007), Louisville, KY Impact Award (2009), 2011 Top 100 National Inner City Business Award (2011), Business First Philanthropy Award (2011), Center of Excellence National Minority Businesses Council (2012), Bingham Fellow Graduate (2014), Leadership Louisville - West Louisville Connector Award (2015);

 WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White was married for 14 years to LaTanya White; and

 WHEREAS, Mr. Michael T. White and LaTanya have three children, TaHonda Johnson, Teresa Walker, and Maya White and four grandchildren: LaVonte Watts, Marcus Russell, Zaniya Johnson and Skylar “ Mikey” Hooten;

WHEREAS, Metro Councilman David W. Tandy wishes to honor the late Mr. Michael T. White by instructing the Department of Public works to install honorary signage designating the following locations as “Michael T. White Street”: Jefferson Street beginning at 22nd Street, ending at 24th Street.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:

 

SECTION I:                     That Michael White’s life and service to Louisville Metro be honored and memorialized on 22nd and Jefferson Street going west to 24th and Jefferson Street, in Louisville, Kentucky designated as “Michael T. White Street.”  Department of Public Works is hereby directed to affect the same as soon as practicable following the passage of this resolution.

SECTION II:                      This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
