WHEREAS, G. Ray Crider was a graduate of Flaget High School in 1957 and devoted his life to the Labor Movement. He was a machinist by trade and was elected President of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) #681 at Brown Williamson Tobacco Company in 1958;
WHEREAS, he was selected to serve as the Political & Legislative Director of the Kentucky State American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) in 1972;
WHEREAS, in 1992 he was employed by the Kentucky Laborers District Council as the Administrator of the Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education (LECET) Trust Fund;
WHEREAS, in 1998 he was employed by the Political Department of the National AFL-CIO where he worked in many political campaigns eventually retiring in 2001;
WHEREAS, he was named the Labor recipient of the 1999 Kentucky Labor / Management Award, the Louisville Jefferson County Democratic Party (LJCDP) Volunteer of the Year Award in 2009 and the Metro Democratic Club Service Award in 2017;
WHEREAS, Ray was honorably discharged in 1965 from the Kentucky National Guard;
WHEREAS, Ray served several terms as President of the Louisville / Jefferson County Revenue Commission, a member of the Louisville Labor / Management Committee, Louisville Urban League, the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee, the Metro United Way, the Special Skills Olympics Committee, the Louisville Gardens Board of Directors, the Labor Representative on the State Unemployment Insurance Appeals Commission, the Pastoral Council of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and the Southwest Community Festival Boar...
