TITLE
A RESOLUTION HONORING J. BARRY BARKER BY DEDICATING THE CORNER OF 10TH STREET AND WEST BROADWAY AS "BARRY BARKER BLVD." IN HIS HONOR.

WHEREAS, J. Barry Barker made Louisville a better place by putting in motion his motivating belief that access to opportunity is essential for individuals and communities to thrive;
WHEREAS, Mr. Barker is a recognized national leader in public transportation;
WHEREAS, Mr. Barker has given nearly a quarter century of service to TARC as Executive Director and served on the boards of more than a dozen non-profit and community organizations;
WHEREAS, Mr. Barker has received several awards and recognitions, including, but not limited to, Outstanding Public Transportation Manager of the Year from the American Public Transportation Association, Easter Seal Advocate of the Year, Sharon D. Banks Award for Humanitarian Leadership in Transportation from the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, and is a Kentucky Transportation Hall of Fame inductee;
WHEREAS, Mr. Barker retired from TARC on December 1, 2018, and continues to remain active in non-profit work to improve our community; and
WHEREAS, the Council is grateful for Mr. Barker's service and dedication to our community and thanks him for his service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: J. Barry Barker's dedicated service and commitment to Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of an honorary street sign on the corner of 10th Street and West Broadway just east of Union Station in Louisville, Kentucky and so designated as "Barry Barker Blvd."
SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the installation of the honorary sign upon the passage of this Resolution.
