TITLE
A RESOLUTION HONORING OFFICER PETER ALAN GRIGNON BY DEDICATING THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH HURSTBOURNE PARKWAY AND WATTERSON TRAIL SIX MILE LANE AND STONY BROOK DRIVE AS "OFC. PETER GRIGNON WAY" IN HIS HONOR.

WHEREAS, Peter Alan Grignon was born to Donald and Barbara Grignon on September 30, 1977 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and died in Louisville on March 23, 2005;
WHEREAS, Officer Grignon served on the Louisville Metro Police Department ("LMPD") for two years before being the first LMPD officer killed in the line of duty;
WHEREAS, Officer Grignon was slain 14 years ago while responding to a hit-and-run accident;
WHEREAS, Officer Grignon is survived by his parents, his brother Paul, his nephews Sam and Miles, and his widow, Rebecca Grignon-Reker, who is currently the Development Director for the Louisville Police Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Louisville Metro Council will never forget Officer Grignon for his dedication and ultimate sacrifice to Louisville Metro.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT ("LOUISVILLE METRO COUNCIL") AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: In memory and appreciation for his dedication and sacrifice to Louisville Metro, the Louisville Metro Council hereby recognizes Officer Peter Alan Grignon with the placement of an honorary street sign on the southeast corner of S. Hurstbourne Parkway and Watterson Trail near Walgreens at the intersection of Six Mile Lane and Stony Brook Drive in Louisville, Kentucky and so designated as "Ofc. Peter Grignon Way."
SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary sign upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense from the third-party payor.
