A RESOLUTION HONORING REV. DR. E. E. HEARD BY DEDICATING THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF MUHAMMAD ALI BOULEVARD AND WEST 28TH STREET TO BE NAMED “DR. E. E. HEARD WAY” IN HIS HONOR.

WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. E. E. Heard is a native of West Point, Mississippi and has been a Pastor since 1960;

WHEREAS, Dr. Heard obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lane College, a Master of Arts Degree from Bradley University, and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the America Baptist Seminary;

 WHEREAS, Dr. Heard moved to Louisville and has been the Pastor of the Guiding Star Baptist Church since 1977 where his leadership has grown the prison and youth ministries;

WHEREAS, Dr. Heard is a Chaplain for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Baptist Missionary State Convention, member of the Board of Trustees of Montgomery Bible College, and has previously held offices and memberships in other organizations such as the NAACP and Park DuValle Health Center;

WHEREAS, Dr. Heard has received two Kentucky Colonel Commissions from two Kentucky governors and was featured in the 2008 edition of Who’s Who in Black Louisville, a publication that celebrates the achievements of African Americans;

WHEREAS, Dr. Heard and his wife, Alma, have two children, Edrick and Sanquanetta, and two grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Metro Council wishes to honor Dr. Heard for his leadership and dedication to the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

 

SECTION I:                      Rev. Dr. E. E. Heard’s leadership and dedication to Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of an honorary street sign on the southeast corner of Muhammad Ali Boulevard and West 28th Street and so designated as “Dr. E. E. Heard Way.”

SECTION II:                      The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary sign upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense.     

SECTION III:                      This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
