WHEREAS, the Members of the Louisville Metro Council added funding to reopen the Middletown Library and emphasize our support of library services as part of the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Budget process; and

WHEREAS, the inventory of books within our library system is below acceptable limits; and

WHEREAS, despite being funded in the Metro budget, the Middletown Library branch was not open during the first three months of the current fiscal year and is currently working on a limited basis which should leave the Library budget with excess funds; and

WHEREAS, the Metro Council wishes to show its continued support for our libraries by passage of this ordinance to ensure that these excess funds and any other additional funds are kept within the Louisville Free Public Library system to assist with the purchase of additional literary inventory or other needed operational needs of the department.
