TITLE
A RESOLUTION HONORING DR. H. DONALD COCKERHAM BY DEDICATING THE NORTHWEST AND SOUTHWEST CORNERS OF THE 22ND STREET AND MUHAMMAD ALI BOULEVARD INTERSECTION AS "DR. H. DONALD COCKERHAM WAY" IN HIS HONOR.

WHEREAS, Dr. H. Donald Cockerham hails from McComb, Mississippi, born in 1930; and
WHEREAS, Dr. H. Donald Cockerham, in 1969 received a unanimous vote to become the sixth Pastor of the Historic Zion Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Dr. H. Donald Cockerham served 35 years as Pastor at the Historic Zion Baptist Church where he addressed himself to the liquidation of outstanding debt and by his third year as Pastor, fully satisfied the debt and burned the mortgage of the church; and
WHEREAS, Dr. H. Donald Cockerham taught the members of Historic Zion Baptist Church we are here to serve, reminding them weekly of the importance of coming to the aid of all who are in want or need, physically or spiritually; and
WHEREAS, Dr. H. Donald Cockerham, retired as Pastor in November 2004 from the Historic Zion Baptist, and thereafter being honored by the Historic Zion Baptist Church in 2005 with the title of Pastor Emeritus.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: Dr. H. Donald Cockerham's dedicated service and commitment to Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of an honorary street sign on the northwest and southwest corners of the 22nd Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard intersection in Louisville, Kentucky and so designated as "Dr. H. Donald Cockerham Way."
SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary signs upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense.
SECTION III: This Resolution shall take effect...
