A RESOLUTION HONORING CHARLES "BUD" DORSEY BY DEDICATING THE CORNER OF BURWELL AVENUE AND 18TH STREET AS "CHARLES 'BUD' DORSEY WAY" IN HIS HONOR.

WHEREAS, Charles "Bud" Dorsey was born in 1941 and grew up in West Louisville; and
WHEREAS, Bud Dorsey attended Central High School, along with the Greatest of All Time - Muhammed Ali; and
WHEREAS, Bud Dorsey's interest in photography developed and evolved under the mentorship of Arthur Evans, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, in 1964, after serving in the United States Navy, Bud Dorsey became a freelance photographer for the Courier-Journal and Louisville Defender newspapers; and
WHEREAS, Bud Dorsey started the West End Photography Club for kids; where participants won top prizes at the state level; and
WHEREAS, Bud Dorsey's skilled photographic eye has enriched and influenced the masses across the globe; and
WHEREAS, Bud Dorsey has documented and recorded through photographs, numerous Black events throughout Louisville, showcasing and highlighting his and many of his subjects' amazing talents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Charles "Bud" Dorsey's dedicated service and commitment to Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of an honorary street sign on the corner of Burwell Avenue and 18th Streets, Louisville Kentucky, and so designated as "Charles 'Bud' Dorsey Way."
SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary signs upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense.
SECTION III: This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
