WHEREAS, Billy and Susan Johnson owned and operated Johnson's Quality Childcare on Bruce Avenue, and later a second location on Old Third Street Road, with before- and after-school programs at Saint Nicholas Academy, for over forty-seven years, all to the great benefit of their community's childcare needs; and
WHEREAS, Billy and Susan tragically lost their own son, Jeremy Johnson, in a car accident in 1995; after that time Billy and Susan redoubled their efforts to serve their community's childcare needs, working closely with Kenwood Elementary and St. Nicolas Academy to provide after-school programs until the difficulties of the Covid-19 pandemic forced the Johnson's to make the difficult decision to close their small business; and
WHEREAS, for generations Billy and Susan Johnson provided a place for children in Louisville's Southend neighborhoods to grow, learn, and be loved; and for the Johnson's commitment to providing childcare in their community for over forty-seven, giving children a home away from home, this community wishes to show its gratitude and well-wishes to the Johnson's in their well-deserved retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: Billy and Susan Johnson are hereby recognized for their exemplary community service with the placement of honorary street signs on Bruce Avenue, from 3rd Street Road to Justan Avenue, designating Bruce Avenue as the honorary "Billy & Susan Johnson Way."
