A RESOLUTION HONORING REVEREND WELTON LANE SR. BY DEDICATING THE CORNERS OF 4TH STREET AND LEE STREET AND 4TH STREET AND GAULBERT AVENUE AS “REV. WELTON LANE SR. WAY” IN HIS HONOR.

WHEREAS, Rev. Welton Lane Sr. was born in Beaumont, Texas, to a mother and father who were also pastors and who reared all their children in the church; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Welton Lane Sr. played instruments in his father’s church until he turned 15 and left home to play the organ for a traveling evangelist; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Welton Lane Sr. eventually began recording country music in Nashville and had several singles on the Billboard charts; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Welton Lane Sr. rededicated his life to Christ after visiting an old family church in Los Angeles and became their organist and music director; and

WHEREAS, In May of 1984, Rev. Welton Lane Sr. returned to Louisville, Kentucky, to establish the Family Worship Center; and

WHEREAS, The Family Worship Center is celebrating 38-years of Rev. Welton Lane Sr’s leadership. A beacon in the heart of Louisville, with Louisville at his heart.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

 

SECTION I: Rev. Welton Lane Sr.’s dedicated service and commitment to Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of honorary street signs on the corners of 4th Street and Lee Street and 4th Street and Gaulbert Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky and so designated as “Rev. Welton Lane Sr. Way.”

SECTION II: The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary street signs upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds from members of the Family Worship Center to cover the expense. 

SECTION III:                     This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval or otherwise becoming law.
