A RESOLUTION HONORING WATERSTEP BY DEDICATING THE CORNER OF 7TH AND MYRTLE STREETS AS “WATERSTEP WAY” IN THEIR HONOR.

WHEREAS, WaterStep, headquartered in Louisville, KY at 625 Myrtle Street, is a nonprofit organization that believes everyone should have access to safe water free from water borne illnesses;

WHEREAS, WaterStep has brought safe water to nearly 5 million people in over 60 countries;

WHEREAS, WaterStep equips people across many different languages and cultures with the necessary tools and training programs designed to secure safe water in purification, disaster relief, sanitation, and well repair;

WHEREAS, WaterStep has received local, national, and international awards for its success in impacting the health of communities by empowering ordinary people;

WHEREAS, in August of 2021, WaterStep launched its largest undertaking, partnering with UPS, and sending equipment deployed to Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, providing 1.7 million people safe water and sanitation;

WHEREAS, the Council is grateful for WaterStep’s service and dedication to the Louisville community and around the world; and

WHEREAS, in R-088-21 Council approved the honorary naming of 6th and Myrtle Street as “WaterStep Way” and now Council completes the boundaries of the honorary street naming by naming the corner of 7th and Myrtle Street the same.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I:                      WaterStep’s dedicated service and commitment to Louisville Metro is hereby recognized with the placement of an honorary street sign on 7th and Myrtle Streets, Louisville Kentucky, and so designated as “WaterStep Way.”

SECTION II:                      The Department of Public Works is hereby directed to move forward with the fabrication and installation of the honorary signs upon the passage of this Resolution and the receipt of funds to cover the expense. 

SECTION III:                      This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval or otherwise becoming law.
