WHEREAS, the Metro Government wishes to enter into this agreement through the Department of Civic Innovation & Technology; and

WHEREAS, Smart Cities technology should help us reach our goals of economic growth, compassion, equity, and efficiency; and

WHEREAS, Louisville Metro Government will look to use technology to improve  systemic travel and safety issues for vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles; to better understand and solve the health and environmental challenges our community faces; to improve the safety and well-being of our residents; and to promote economic development by making investments in areas, such as infrastructure, that make business investment more appealing and to make Louisville a frontrunner in providing innovative solutions for both the private market and our community; and

WHEREAS, the federal government is making funds available to promote the adoption and implementation of Smart Cities solutions; and

WHEREAS, Honeywell has offered to donate in-kind services to Louisville Metro Government for the purpose of developing Smart City proposals likely to secure federal funding.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT AS FOLLOWS:

 

SECTION I:                     The Mayor is hereby authorized to accept a donation of in-kind services from Honeywell International, Inc.  in an amount valued at approximately $250,000 to develop “Smart Cities” plans and applications capable of winning federal grants, to be administered by the Department of Civic Innovation and Technology, to advance Louisville Metro Government’s Smart City goals.

SECTION II:  This Resolution shall become effective upon its passage and approval or otherwise becoming law.
