A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE OFFICE OF ARTS AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AS THE LOCAL ARTS AGENCY FOR LOUISVILLE METRO GOVERNMENT (AMENDMENT BY SUBSTITUTION).

                     WHEREAS, Louisville Metro Government has an interest in promoting visual and performing arts in its community; and

                     WHEREAS, the arts contribute to the quality of life, economy, and authenticity of the city; and

                     WHEREAS, a local arts agency is defined in 20 U.S.C. § 952(h) as a community organization, or an agency of local government, that primarily provides financial support, services, or other programs for a variety of artists and arts organizations, for the benefit of the community as a whole; and

                     WHEREAS, in order to qualify for certain federal funding, Louisville Metro Government is required to designate an official local arts agency; and

                     WHEREAS, an internal Office of Arts and Creative Industries, which will serve as Metro’s local arts agency, has been established by Louisville Metro Government to provide centralized support in sustaining the health and vitality of Louisville Metro’s arts community, and to make the arts accessible to all citizens; and

                     WHEREAS, official designation of the Office of Arts and Creative Industries as Louisville Metro Government’s local arts agency by Metro Council will increase access to arts funding in accordance with Louisville Metro Government’s Strategic Plan; and

                     WHEREAS, Metro Council’s designation of the Office of Arts and Creative Industries as Louisville Metro Government’s local arts agency will allow Louisville Metro Government to consolidate and improve its support of the arts within the community as a whole.

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (“THE COUNCIL”) AS FOLLOWS:

 

SECTION I:                     The Council designates the Office of Arts and Creative Industries as Louisville Metro Government’s official local arts agency.

SECTION II:  This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval or otherwise becomes law.
