WHEREAS, Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. served the greater Louisville and Jefferson County
Community in many religious, civic and social endeavors, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. concluded 40 years as pastor of the Oakland Baptist Church, from February 1959 through February 1999, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. led the Oakland Baptist Church congregation into a new mortgage free church facility in February 1992, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr., for 35 years, taught "Sunday School on the Air" with WLLV/WLOU radio station, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. served as president of the Kentucky State Body of National Baptist Convention of America for 14 years, and was president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Coalition of the NAACP for 10 years, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. served as Ombudsman in Jefferson County Government, Chaplin for Jefferson County Corrections and was on the Advisory Board of M.L. King Post Office, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. was a shining light for thousands of people. His spiritual commitment left a powerful influence on families in our neighborhoods and in the community, and
WHEREAS, Metro Councilman David A. James wishes to honor the late Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. by instructing the Department of Metro Public Works to install honorary signage designating the following location as Dr. Alvin J. Elmore, Sr. Avenue: South Street beginning at Algonquin Parkway and ending at Euclid Avenue.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF THE LOUISVILLE/ JEFFERSON COUNTY METRO GOVERNMENT (THE COUNCIL) AS FOLLOWS:
